Navigating the net I have discovered the web site of Marco and his plan to create a manga with Goldrake as protagonist using characters 3D only.
I have given a look to the gallery and remained truly enraptured by his work and great skill, therefore I have decided to ask him some question in order to introduce him to the readers of Comicsblog.it. Ah, the first three images are an exclusive preview for us.

Introduce yourself to the readers of Comicsblog.it.
Hello to everybody. My name is Marco and I was born in Venice in 1969.

We have learned of your plan to realize a manga in 3D on Goldrake, what has pushed you to undertake this adventure? Why the choice of this character?
First of all it is not exactly a manga 3D as I do not know if I will succeed in rendering all the necessary scenes.
In the beginning the manga will be in absolute black and white with probably some rendered tables.
My capabilities of hand free drawing are quite limited therefore the choice of Computer Graphics has been nearly obliged. The using of 3D characters will help in creating the various scenes necessary to the comic strip without having to draw continuously everything as it happens with the traditional method.

To the contrary the choice of the personage is quite accidental. Participating to a 3D Challenge, whose topic was Single-Seat Spaceship I have modeled the hover Pilder of Mazinga Z, the big shooter of Jeeg and finally the Tfo di Alcor (Koji Kabuto). The thing has amused me and I went on in modeling other characters of the Grendizer’ Saga.

How do you make drawings? Which software?
The project itself is freeware and being not in he position of using expensive programs I was compelled to address myself to the world Open Source and Freeware.
Models are made with the freeware version of Google Sketchup 6.0, a simple but powerful software 3D initially put to disposition of the customers by Google to create models to be inserted in Google Earth.
The rendering of the scenes has been made with Kerkythea 2007, another GNU application.
Necessary retouching and composition of the scenes are made with The Gimp 2.0.
The tables of the manga are made using the commercial software Manga Studio 3.0 Debut.

To carry out the drawings do you base yourself on the manga, the ANIME or other?
The starting idea was to create models that could be more close possible to real models. Unfortunately manga and TV serie not always bring back geometries and credible proportions. In the anime arms and legs are folded in an unreal way and articulations and movements would turn out impossible to be actualized. Therefore I gathered information and images downloading everything I could find on models, action figures and work 3D created by other molders. I bought also a very nice Goldrake, 40 cm high, in order to evaluate the correct proportions of the elements.

Can you give to us a trace of the history, a smallest preview?
The plot will be much similar to the one of the television series with a small surprise final in the last page.

Plotline: Vega attacks and during the first clash with the alien forces Grendizer seems to be defeated. In a following clash our hero will defeat the enemy and....the rest will be in the manga.

Are you a fan of comic strips?
Like I think many of the readers, , I was grown with bread and Topolino to pass then to Marvel Superheroes with great problems and eventually to Bonelli's Heroes.

If so, what you prefer among manga, comics and italian comic strips?
Hard to say, the list of the comic strips that I would want to read would be very long. Basically I like to read a comic strip with a good history and a good drawing. Currently I read the whole series of Bonelli’s "Nathan Never" and, when it comes to print, "Alita Last Order". Among the comics, for a long time I have followed the series of "Spawn" and "Spiderman".

Do you know something about the plan The UFO? How do you find the idea?
Magnificent! If the trailer respects only a bit the rest of the plan I hope before that soon or late they succeed to finish the film.
I have used some of their renderings in order to natch some details of my models.

Have you an expiry date for this plan?
The first idea was to finish it within the end of 2008, but I am aware that it will take a little more. Engagements of job and personal do not leave escape. Sincerely a specific term does not exist.

Where could we find your job? In which format?
The manga he will be freely dowloadable directly from the "project://Grendizer Saga" site and initially the single finished chapters will be released from time to time. At the end I will put them together in a single PDF file.
